The road in the Anai Valley Cannot be Crossed

PADANG - The Governor of West Sumatra, Buya H. Mahyeldi Ansharullah, reiterated that the Padang Panjang-Padang national road via the Anai Valley is still not passable by any type of vehicle.

This confirmation was conveyed through an official announcement in Decree Number 550/549/DISHUB-SB/VI/2024. This decision was taken after the West Sumatra Province Road Traffic and Transportation Forum (LLAJ) Meeting on Thursday, June 27 2024.

According to the Head of the West Sumatra Transportation Service, Dedi Diantolani, the temporary closure of the Anai Valley road section is intended to ensure the safety and security of all road users, as well as speed up the project work process currently underway on this road section.

"All motorized vehicles are prohibited from crossing or using this road section, except for those who have interests directly related to accelerating project work," he explained, quoted on Sunday (30/6).

Dedi appealed to all affected communities to comply with applicable regulations for the smooth running and safety of all.

"It is hoped that this announcement will minimize traffic disruption and provide full support for the implementation of ongoing infrastructure projects," he added.

The West Sumatra Provincial Government, through the relevant Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), he said, will continue to supervise and monitor the implementation of the closure of the Anai Valley road section, according to the schedule that has been set.

Further information can be accessed via the official website of the West Sumatra regional government or the official social media provided.

"We will continue to provide the latest information regarding developments in the closure of the Anai Valley road section, and the government's efforts to maintain security and smooth traffic in this area," said Dedi.

It is hoped that this announcement will provide understanding to the public regarding the importance of temporarily closing the Anai Valley road section, for the sake of safety and accelerating infrastructure projects in the area.

The national road was washed away when it was hit by cold lava floods on May 11 2024. The process takes a long time. It is estimated that it will be completed on July 21 2024.

For the time being, vehicles going from or to Padang to Padang Panjang, Bukittinggi, Payakumbuh, Medan and Pekanbaru will be diverted via provincial roads via Malalak or via Sitinjau Lawik.

Especially for the Padang-Bukittinggi route via Malalak, starting Monday (1/7), three axle vehicles and above are prohibited, except for certain types of vehicles such as fuel and LPG tankers. (mus)
