TANAH DATAR - After witnessing the thrilling final match between IKPL Kota Padang Fc and Grand Azizi Fc, which ended with IKPL Kota Padang Fc emerging victorious after a dramatic penalty shootout, the first-ever Open Wali Nagari Cup I tournament was officially closed by Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra.
The closing ceremony took place at the Nagari Padang Laweh football field in Sungai Tarab District on Sunday (30/6/2024).
On this occasion, Bupati Eka expressed his hope that the Open Wali Nagari Cup II would be held next year. "Hopefully, this football tournament will continue to be held in the following year," he stated.
Furthermore, Bupati Eka extended his gratitude to all parties involved, ensuring that the Open Wali Nagari Cup I was conducted smoothly without significant obstacles.
"Lastly, I would like to thank the Government of Nagari Padang Laweh, the organizing committee, and other parties for their hard work in organizing this football tournament excellently," he added.
In the same event, Wali Nagari Padang Laweh Rahmat Febri Jeni Dt. Barabangso mentioned that the event was funded by the Nagari's allocated budget.
He also added that with the support of all parties, it is highly likely that the Open Wali Nagari Cup II will be held.
"Insya Allah, we will continue this tournament next year. This year is the Open Wali Nagari Cup I, and next year will be the Open Wali Nagari Cup II. I hope we all agree," he remarked.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Open Wali Nagari Cup I Nasrul Chaniago, explained that eight clubs participated in the tournament, which started on June 23, 2024.
"Initially, there were eight clubs. We used a knockout system, leading up to the final match between IKPL Kota Padang Fc and Grand Azizi Fc," he said.
At the end of the tournament, Bupati Eka Putra presented trophies to the winners, runners-up, and the best player.
The ceremony was attended by Tanah Datar Regent from 2005-2015, M. Shadiq Pasadigoe, Tanah Datar Youth and Sports Agency Head Riswandi, Sungai Tarab Subdistrict Head Miza Aziz, Ninik Mamak, community leaders, and other invited guests. (mus)
