PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net - The goal of 1,000 santri set by the Pimpinan Wilayah Muhammadiyah (PWM) Sumatera Barat for Pesantren Kauman Padang Panjang is still facing obstacles due to limited learning facilities.
"This year, many prospective students couldn't be accepted. We don't have enough classrooms, and our dormitory facilities are also insufficient. Hopefully, by next year, we can achieve the target with continuous improvements in facilities and infrastructure," said Dr. Derliana, Mudir of Pesantren Kauman, on Saturday (6/7) in Padang Panjang.
Dr. Derliana made this statement in the presence of the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, Buya Dr. H. Anwar Abbas, who made a special visit to Kauman amidst his busy schedule during his working visit to West Sumatra.
Besides the mudir and staff, Buya's visit was welcomed by the Chairman of the Kauman Pesantren Development Board (BPP), Buya H. Apris, along with members, FKIP UM Sumbar Dean Dr. Gusmaizal Syandri, Chairman of the Pabasko Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PDM) Musriadi Musanif, along with other staff, teachers, and employees.
Buya Anwar was accompanied by PWM Sumbar Chairman Dr. Bakhtiar, Vice-Chairmen Yosmeri Yusuf and Marhadi Efendi, and the Expert Council for UMKM Development at PP Muhammadiyah Irman Gusman.
Dr. Derliana explained that more than a hundred applicants for Pesantren Kauman for the 2024/2025 academic year had to be rejected. Therefore, he requested Buya Anwar and the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership to help facilitate the acceleration of building more classrooms and dormitories.
"Our target is to expand this campus so that within the next two years, we can realize the goal of 1,000 santri. Later, Kauman will house male students, while the Koto Katiak area will be developed as a campus for female students," he said.
Buya Anwar's visit this time managed to ignite the enthusiasm of all parties involved in developing the pesantren, which was initially led by Buya Hamka when it was still named Tabligh School. Buya Anwar promised to facilitate this development with various related parties.
Buya Anwar expressed his appreciation for the progress and achievements of Pesantren Kauman.
This visit was a follow-up to a previous meeting when BPP Kauman Chairman Apris, Pesantren Mudir Dr. Derliana, and PDM Pabasko Chairman Musriadi Musanif visited the PP Muhammadiyah office in Jakarta to discuss various issues related to the development of Kauman, which will be a century old in two years.
During his visit to Kauman, Buya had the opportunity to inspect the newly completed three-story male dormitory building. The foundation stone for this dormitory was laid by PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Prof. Haedar Nashir in 2023.
After inspecting the male dormitory, Buya and his entourage witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Payakumbuh Branch of Bank Nagari Syariah and the Mudir of Kauman Muhammadiyah Pesantren Padang Panjang.
Buya Anwar appreciated this cooperation and hoped it would be mutually beneficial, with the lowest possible margins to ensure smooth collaboration.
"Continue to strengthen cooperation with local sharia financial institutions so that we can advance together. Let's progress together for Sumatera Barat," he said. (MRd)
