IMI Hosts Open Road Race with Padang Panjang Police


PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net — To celebrate the 78th Bhayangkara Day, the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) held the Padang Panjang Open Road Race, competing for the Padang Panjang Police Chief's Cup on Sunday (14/7/2024) at the Non-Permanent Circuit (NP) Lapangan Khatib Sulaiman Bancalaweh.

The event was officially opened by Police Chief AKBP Kartyana Widyarso Wardoyo Putro, and featured 478 motorbike racers from West Sumatra and Riau. 

The event was supported by the Padang Panjang City Government and the National Sports Committee of Indonesia or Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia (KONI).

In attendance were DPRD Chairman Mardiansyah, representatives from Forkopimda, Head of the Department of Youth, Sports, and Tourism Nurasrizal, MT, KONI Chairman Panji Rangga Warman, and other invitees.

This Open Road Race featured 17 classes, including open class (five classes), open beginner (three classes), beginner Sumatra Barat (two classes), local beginner (three classes), non-champion (two classes), and development (two classes).

Police Chief Kartyana stated that the Open Road Race aimed to nurture the motor sports talent among the youth. He expressed his hope that they could compete and enliven the motor sports scene.

"We extend our gratitude to the organizers who prepared this event excellently. Alhamdulillah, we have around 478 racers participating," he said.

Furthermore, Chief Kartyana urged the younger generation, especially in the Padang Panjang area, to refrain from illegal street racing. He emphasized that the police had facilitated their hobby and talent through the Open Road Race.

"We provide training time and events, with one condition: if there is any illegal street racing in Padang Panjang, we will disband it. This event is also aimed at reviving the local SMEs after the recent disasters," he added.

He invited the participants and visitors from outside Padang Panjang to take some time to shop in the city, such as at the Culinary Market.

Meanwhile, IMI Padang Panjang Chairman and event organizer Yufa Andila, SE, hoped that the event would provide an exciting spectacle and entertainment for motor racing enthusiasts. He also hoped that this event could boost the local economy. (kominfo pp/harris)
