JAKARTA, kiprahkita.net - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has once again urged the public to always be vigilant and cautious in using their personal data.
This appeal follows an incident in Situbondo, where several residents of Arjasa Village purchased cheap cooking oil from someone on the condition that they be photographed using their electronic ID cards (E-KTP).
"We urge the public to be extra careful when providing personal data, especially such as NIK, KTP, and facial photos, especially if asked to record or provide facial photos and so on," said Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Chief Executive of Financial Services Business Conduct Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection at OJK, in a statement received by InfoPublik on Sunday (July 21, 2024).
Friderica reminded that requests for personal data can currently use various modes, such as offering prizes, winning lotteries, commissions, purchasing products at special prices, and job offers.
"Consumers and the public should always be careful and not recklessly click on random links, download files from unknown people, or provide personal data information such as KTP, date of birth, mother's maiden name, and one-time password (OTP) to others," emphasized Friderica.
She revealed that OJK has found that the personal data of financial product consumers is often used for data exchange in marketing and commercial purposes.
From these findings, several cases have been reported to the police due to criminal elements involved. OJK will continue to work with relevant parties to ensure consumer protection in the financial services sector.
"OJK also urges Financial Services Business Operators to enhance their know-your-customer processes to help mitigate the risk of personal data misuse by irresponsible parties," concluded Friderica Widyasari Dewi.(infopublik.id)
