PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net - Despite the cold weather, the spirit of Padang Panjang residents remained high as they gathered for a watch party to see the final of the AFF U-19 Boys Championship.
The event was broadcasted via the city's videotron in front of the Padang Panjang Water Utility Company on Monday night (29/7/2024).
They witnessed the triumph of the Indonesian U-19 National Team, which defeated Thailand U-19 with a score of 1-0 in a match held at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya.
In addition to being attended by thousands of city residents, the watch party was also graced by Acting Mayor (Pj) Sonny Budaya Putra, Police Chief AKBP Kartyana Widyarso Wardoyo Putro, Head of the District Court Agung Wicaksono, representatives of Forkopimda, and Head of the Communication and Information Office Ampera Salim.
The enthusiastic cheers of the thousands of spectators colored the relentless efforts of the Indonesian National Team as they fought tirelessly for 2 x 45 minutes against Thailand.
The crowd's cheers grew louder when Garuda Muda led 1-0 through a goal scored by Indonesia's naturalized player, Jens Raven, in the 17th minute. He capitalized on a corner kick from Muhammad Kafiatur Rizky.
Jens Raven struck the ball unmarked after it missed being headed by Kadek Arel and landed right at the feet of the player wearing number nine.
From the start until the goal, Indra Sjafri's squad continually bombarded the defense of the War Elephants team.
Even after five minutes of added time and the final whistle, the score remained 1-0 in favor of Garuda Muda, securing the AFF U-19 Cup for Indonesia.
Acting Mayor Sonny expressed his joy and gratitude for Indonesia's victory in the final.
"This victory proves that we can achieve even greater things. This is the fighting spirit that must be instilled in all young generations today," he said.
Sonny hopes that sports in Indonesia, not just football, will continue to develop, allowing the country to make a significant mark on the world stage and bring honor to Indonesia.
"Hopefully, we can continue to witness young and senior talents in various sports bringing pride to Indonesia globally. We are also happy to enjoy this watch party with the community," he added.
