DELI SERDANG - On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, oversaw the release of an export shipment of green bean coffee produced by PT Ujang Jaya International, totaling 10 containers valued at USD 1.48 million destined for the United States. The event took place in Deli Serdang, Sumatra Utara.
"I am grateful this morning as we release the export of coffee products by PT Ujang Jaya International, amounting to 10 containers to the US valued at USD 1.48 million. This is remarkable. We continue to promote exports as this marks the 49th consecutive month of trade surplus," said Minister Zulkifli Hasan, Monday (1/7/2024).
The event was attended by the Head of the Department of Industry, Trade, Energy, and Mineral Resources of North Sumatra Province, Mulyadi Simatupang, as well as the Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Trade, Suhanto, and the Acting Director General of National Export Development, Mardyana Listyowati.
Hasan emphasized that the Ministry of Trade continues to work diligently to open market access for Indonesian products by expediting the conclusion of trade agreements with partner countries, including the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).
"We are working hard to finalize the CEPA agreement with the European Union. Once concluded, we hope there will be no more issues in exporting pepper, coffee, and especially CPO to the EU. This agreement is nearing completion and is expected to be finalized before October," he added.
Hasan also commended PT Ujang Jaya International for continuously enhancing the export of Indonesian coffee products to the global market, despite challenging economic conditions. Recognition was also given to all parties supporting the increase in exports.
"High appreciation to PT Ujang Jaya International, which is engaged in coffee export and supports farmers by establishing cooperatives. We pray and support that whatever is needed from the government will be facilitated because we will face competition from other countries. The key to becoming a developed country is cooperation. With cooperation, our exports can rise, and banking supports credit development to advance the economy, enabling traders and farmers to thrive," explained Zulkifli, released by infopublik.id.
Over the past five years (2019-2023), Indonesian coffee exports have shown a 4.46% increase. The US ranks first as the destination country for Indonesian coffee exports, totaling USD 215.96 million, equivalent to 23.24% of the export share.
"The main competitors in coffee exports to the US are Latin American countries, including Colombia. Colombia has its own brand managed by cooperatives and supported by its government. Therefore, Indonesian coffee quality must be improved, including in packaging and drying. I fully support cooperatives and warehouse receipts because the key to success is cooperation," highlighted Minister Hasan.
In his address, Minister Hasan invited business actors to participate in the Trade Expo Indonesia to be held on October 9-12, 2024.
This exhibition will be attended by buyers from around the world, presenting an opportunity to enhance exports, especially of coffee products.
"I invite PT Ujang Jaya International to attend the Trade Expo Indonesia 2024 in October because buyers from almost every country will be present. This is a great opportunity to market coffee products to various countries," he concluded.
PT Ujang Jaya International has been a coffee producer since 1998, supplying coffee in Medan, North Sumatra. Since 2004, the company has been exporting Arabica and Robusta coffee to various countries worldwide.
From January to April 2024, Indonesian coffee product exports reached USD 283.3 million, marking a 20% increase compared to the same period the previous year, which totaled USD 236.08 million. In 2023, Indonesian coffee exports totaled USD 929.13 million.(infopublik)
