PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net – Muhammadiyah has taken a new stance in relation to its involvement in practical politics.
While the organization previously left political choices to individual preferences and refrained from participating, it has now decided to adopt a more open approach for the upcoming 2024 democratic event.
"After the official candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of West Sumatra, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Padang Panjang, and Regent and Deputy Regent of Tanah Datar are announced by the KPU, we will openly declare our support, in accordance with the recommendations issued by the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PWM) of West Sumatra," stated Musriadi Musanif, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PDM) of Padang Panjang Batipuh X Koto (Pabasko), during a speech on Sunday (August 11) at the AR St. Mansoer Hall of Kauman Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School in Padang Panjang.
Musriadi made this announcement following the inauguration of three organizational councils under PDM Pabasko, including the Council for Waqf Utilization, the Disaster Resilience Institute, and the Council for Wisdom and Public Policy (LHKP).
On the same occasion, the West Sumatra PWM also inaugurated the management of the Muhammadiyah Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah Institute (LazisMu) for Pabasko.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures such as West Sumatra PWM Secretary Drs. H. Apris, MM., PWM West Sumatra Coordinator for Bukittinggi-Pabasko, Imdibkri, as well as community leaders including Padang Panjang mayoral candidate Dr. H. Edwin, Sp., Dr. H. Albert Nashir, and leaders of various social, community, and political organizations.
From PDM Pabasko, key figures in attendance included Drs. H. Yandri Naga, Dr. Taufik Hidayat, Muhammad Syafran, M.Sc., H. Ali Usman Syu'ib, SE., Suheri, M.Pd.I, and other leaders of Muhammadiyah branches, councils, institutes, autonomous organizations, and Muhammadiyah charitable enterprises.
Musriadi emphasized that LHKP-PDM Pabasko will conduct intensive studies, build communication, and hold in-depth discussions to determine which mayoral and regent-deputy regent candidates for Padang Panjang and Tanah Datar will receive full support from Muhammadiyah.
"This is an urgent agenda for LHKP. Therefore, immediately after being inaugurated, the LHKP leaders should commence their duties effectively. Other agendas, particularly those related to public policy, are also awaiting their attention," he stated.
In addition to the political agenda managed by LHKP, Musriadi also expressed his expectations for the Council for Waqf Utilization to streamline the administration of all Muhammadiyah assets in the region, both movable and immovable, thereby increasing public trust in Muhammadiyah's management of waqf, donations, and purchased assets.
As for the Disaster Resilience Institute and LazisMu, he expressed hope for increased synergy, allowing for more effective humanitarian and social work.
"Our community is still recovering from the aftermath of cold lava floods and landslides. This should be a priority. Previously, our focus was on emergency evacuation, but going forward, we must also focus on mitigation and reconstruction to minimize casualties and property damage during future disasters," he emphasized.
Regarding LazisMu, PDM Pabasko extended gratitude to H. Ali Usman Syu'ib for successfully leading LazisMu in the previous term, and expressed hopes for the institute to become even more active in the future.
In his speech, Apris urged PDM Pabasko, along with all councils, institutes, autonomous organizations, and Muhammadiyah charitable enterprises, to maintain synergy in achieving Muhammadiyah's goals.
"Our organization must be managed with professional administration, organizational discipline, and by empowering all available elements. We must also support our members and cadres who are participating in local elections," he explained.
Apris highlighted that Muhammadiyah has now taken a clear stance in developing its organization and political outlook. He urged PDM Pabasko, through LHKP and the wider Muhammadiyah network, to actively engage with political parties and prospective regional head candidates.
