BANDA ACEH, kiprahkita.net - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation simulation for sailing athletes, who might encounter accidents at sea during the National Sports Week (PON) XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024.
The simulation took place at the sailing competition venue in the waters of Muara Krueng Aceh, Banda Aceh, on Saturday (August 31, 2024).
The simulation involved the SAR vessel KM Kresna 232, several rubber boats, and multiple ambulances to evacuate victims to the nearest hospital.
Eko Suprianto, Acting Head of Basarnas Banda Aceh, stated that the simulation was designed to prepare SAR personnel for the potential evacuation of sailing athletes during the PON XXI Aceh-Sumut events in the Aceh region.
"This simulation involves 100 joint personnel. In addition to Basarnas, the SAR operation simulation also includes the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), the National Police (Polri), the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), medical teams, and other related agencies," he said, according to a press release received by the Aceh Media Center on Sunday (September 1, 2024).
He mentioned that possible incidents in the sailing competition could include broken masts, boat collisions, and other safety-threatening conditions.
"Given these possibilities, SAR personnel must understand what actions to take in the event of an incident or accident at sea," said Eko Suprianto.
Regarding the SAR personnel stationed at PON XXI Aceh-Sumut in the Aceh region, Eko Suprianto explained that 169 personnel have been deployed across various host districts and cities, especially those hosting water sports events.
"SAR personnel have been stationed in areas including Sabang City, Bener Meriah Regency, and Southeast Aceh Regency. In addition to personnel, we have also prepared essential SAR operation equipment," said Eko Suprianto. (infopublik)
