Weather Disrupts Event, Waterski Track Relocated

TOBA, kiprahkita.com - The waterski competition for PON XXI Aceh-Sumut, held at the F1H20 Venue in Balige, Toba Regency, was briefly delayed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Strong winds on Monday afternoon (16/9/2024) caused choppy waves on Lake Toba, forcing the men's wakesurf event to be postponed.

To resume the competition, the organizing committee decided to relocate the track to the southwest, specifically to the Lumban Silintong area, approximately 2 kilometers from the main venue. At this location, the lake surface remained flat and calm despite the wind.

This relocation was a solution to ensure the men's wakesurf event could be completed on schedule. The decision was made after a managers' meeting, which resulted in mutual agreement.

The Chairman of the Waterski Committee for PON XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024, M. Husaini Almubayyin, confirmed the move when contacted by the media.

"We held a managers' meeting earlier, and everyone agreed to continue heats 5 and 6 here, where 11 athletes have already completed their runs," said Husaini.

He further explained that, according to the technical delegate, the relocated track was ideal, offering calm waters even with windy conditions.

"As for the slalom event, we will wait for conditions at the main venue to improve. Hopefully, tomorrow's weather will be calm so we can proceed with the slalom and jumping events," he added.(mctoba)
