PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net - A total of 25 renowned young designers from across West Sumatra showcased their outstanding batik creations during The Modest Young Designer Competition Batik (General Category) at the Padang Panjang Festival (Papa Fest) 2024.
The event was held as part of the MSME Product Exhibition in Padang Panjang on Friday, December 6, 2024.
The competition, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Sports Center, captivated both the judges and the audience with the exceptional batik designs presented by the participants.
The panel of judges included Sri Hidayani Sonny, the Acting Chairperson of TP-PKK Padang Panjang; Zhio William; and Relatusia, a renowned designer from West Sumatra.
Jevie C. Eka Putra, Head of the Department of Trade, Cooperatives, and MSMEs, expressed that the competition aimed to promote and develop the batik culture of West Sumatra, particularly in Padang Panjang.
"We hope this event serves as a platform for participants to showcase their creativity while fostering the appreciation and development of batik art in Padang Panjang," he stated.
Jevie also noted that the competition attracted participants not only from Padang Panjang but also from other regions in West Sumatra. Contestants competed to present their ideas and creations, blending traditional and contemporary batik designs for the judges.
"We hope this competition produces renowned designers, as the participants are talented young designers from West Sumatra," Jevie added.
Hidayani acknowledged the high quality of the designs, which posed a challenge for the judges in selecting the winners.
"The judges evaluated aspects such as the batik motifs, color combinations, neatness, and the overall presentation of each product," she explained.
One of the participants, Atika Dwi Putri from Padang Panjang, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to compete.
"I was very nervous participating in this event, as I only brought two sets of batik designs. Winning or losing is a bonus for me. What matters is that I had the chance to participate and compete with other young designers," Atika said.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Bhayangkari Chairperson Rifka Kartyana, PKK Secretary Aisyah, and other guests. (kominfo pp)
