Adiwiyata is a Recognition, Not a Competition

PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net - Dozens of schools in Padang Panjang received Adiwiyata awards from the Municipal Government during the 2024 Sustainability Meeting of the Environmental Awareness and Culture Movement in Schools (GPBLHS), and Adiwiyata Appreciation Ceremony held at the Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) Hall on Monday (30/12/2024).

"The municipal government provides monetary rewards to each Adiwiyata school alongside certificates, official decrees (SK), and trophies according to the awarding level, be it city, provincial, or national," said the Head of the Housing, Settlement Areas, and Environment Office (Perkim LH), Alvi Sena.

According to Alvi Sena, there are 10 Adiwiyata schools in Padang Panjang in 2024. These include three City Adiwiyata Schools (SDN 9 PPT, SDN 7 PPB, and SDIT HM Syarif), five Provincial Adiwiyata Schools (SMPN 2, SMPN 4, SDN 14 PPB, SDN 15 PPB, and SDN 1 PPT), and two National Adiwiyata Schools (SDN 5 PPB and MTsS DMP Diniyyah Putri).

"Congratulations to the schools that have received City, Provincial, and National Adiwiyata Awards," said Alvi.

Environmental Educator Vivi Yulia Rahmawati, stated that each school received rewards according to its level: IDR 3,000,000 for city-level, IDR 5,000,000 for provincial-level, and IDR 7,000,000 for national-level schools.

In addition, schools were given extended Adiwiyata recognitions in two categories.

For the City Adiwiyata Extension, 10 schools received certificates and official decrees, including MAN 1, MAN 3, SDN 2 PPB, SDN 4 PPB, SDN 12 PPB, SDN 2 PPT, SDN 7 PPT, SDN 10 PPT, SDN 14 PPT, and MIS REY Padang Panjang.

For the Provincial Adiwiyata Extension, SMPN 3 and MAKM Muhammadiyah received certificates and decrees from the Provincial Government of West Sumatra.

Vivi emphasized that Adiwiyata is a recognition, not a competition. Schools must maintain their Adiwiyata status, which is valid for four years.

"If a school does not apply for an extension or advance to the next Adiwiyata level, its Adiwiyata status will be revoked, returning it to a 'zero' or prospective Adiwiyata school," she explained.

To ensure the sustainability of their Adiwiyata recognition, schools are encouraged to implement six aspects of environmentally friendly behavior (PRLH) in all school activities.

Meanwhile, the Head of Disdikbud, Nasrul, urged schools to uphold the Adiwiyata values consistently.

"Schools should not only practice Adiwiyata when receiving awards but should implement sustainable GPBLHS actions, facilitated by Perkim LH and Disdikbud. This environmental culture program must involve all school members and be integrated into teachers' lesson plans (RPP)," he said.

This initiative reflects the government's commitment to fostering environmentally conscious and sustainable practices in schools.(komindopdp)
