PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net - The Sumatra Barat (Sumbar) 2024 Healthy Cat Contest was held at the Padang Panjang Festival (Papa Fest) 2024 on Monday (9/12/2024) at the Sport Center Multi-Purpose Hall in Padang Panjang.
The event, organized in collaboration between the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PDHI) Sumbar Branch and the Padang Panjang City Government, celebrated the city’s 234th anniversary.
A total of 68 cats from various regions in Sumbar participated in the contest, divided into domestic or mixed-domestic categories and purebred categories.
The competition aimed to enhance public awareness of proper cat care while adhering to animal welfare principles.
Head of the Food and Agriculture Office (Dispangtan), Ade Nafrita Anas, M.P., emphasized the importance of fostering compassion for animals, particularly cats.
"Educating the public about pet care is crucial. From proper handling to ensuring their well-being, this event provides an opportunity for attendees to learn from animal health experts. We hope it inspires better care practices for pets," she said.
Chairman of PDHI Sumbar Branch, Drh. Wahidin Beruh, expressed his hope that pet owners could share knowledge and improve their pet care practices. He also detailed the contest's health-focused assessment criteria.
"The primary aspects of evaluation include health records, such as vaccination status, teeth, fur, eyes, and ears. Additionally, the cat’s anatomy is assessed," he explained.
The event featured an interactive talk show with judges, who were veterinary doctors from PDHI Sumbar.
Another highlight was a catwalk session where cats, accompanied by their owners, showcased their bonding. The catwalk performance also factored into the judging criteria.
The contest concluded with the announcement of winners for both the healthy cat contest and the favorite catwalk category. (kominfopdp)
