PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net - Padang Panjang City has been recognized as one of 40 regions across Indonesia that have implemented six concrete measures to address inflation issues, following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).
This was conveyed by the Acting Mayor (Pj Wali Kota) of Padang Panjang, Sonny Budaya Putra, A.P., M.Si, during a Coordination Meeting (Rakor) on Inflation Control via Zoom, led by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya, on Monday (December 23, 2024).
“We have carried out all the instructions as directed by the Minister of Home Affairs to address inflation issues. One such initiative was our recent market inspection, conducted together with Forkopimda and other stakeholders, to monitor food prices at the Central Market in preparation for Christmas and New Year (Nataru),” said Pj Mayor Sonny.
The market inspection was specifically conducted ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays to ensure food prices remained stable and avoided significant increases amid heightened demand.
Sonny added that Padang Panjang had also organized low-cost market operations, collaborated with commodity distributors to ensure smooth supply chains, promoted planting initiatives, utilized the Unexpected Expenditure Budget (BTT), and provided transportation support.
Despite these efforts, some key commodities experienced price hikes following last week’s market operation. Green chilies, bird's eye chilies, and red chilies saw significant price increases.
“The rise in chili prices is due to reduced production by farmers. The current La Niña phenomenon has led to increased rainfall in many parts of Indonesia, resulting in lower chili harvest yields and affecting consumer prices,” he explained.
Sonny urged relevant departments to take anticipatory measures to ensure the availability and price stability of essential goods while addressing distribution challenges during the Nataru holidays.
As for inflation in Padang Panjang, November 2024 figures were based on Bukittinggi City’s inflation rate, which stood at 1.27% year-on-year (yoy), down from October’s 1.78%. On a monthly basis, November saw inflation of 0.06% month-to-month (mtm), a slight decrease from October’s 0.07%.
According to the Padang Panjang Statistics Bureau (BPS), the Price Development Index (IPH) for the third week of December 2024 was -0.13, indicating low fluctuations. The main commodities contributing to this low fluctuation included broiler chicken (-0.303), red chili (-0.121), and rice (-0.1033).
“This low IPH reflects well-controlled prices in Padang Panjang,” Sonny remarked. (kominfopdp)
