Mahyeldi-Vasko Secure Victory in West Sumatra Gubernatorial Election

PADANG, kiprahkita.com – The General Election Commission (KPU) of West Sumatra (Sumbar) has officially announced the results of the 2024 simultaneous national elections for the province’s Governor and Deputy Governor. The declaration was made during an open plenary session in Padang on Sunday (December 8).  

The Mahyeldi-Vasko pair was declared the winner with a landslide 77.12% of the votes, totaling 1,757,612 valid votes. They significantly outperformed their rivals, Epyardi-Ekos, who garnered only 22.88% or 521,448 valid votes.  

Mahyeldi-Vasko also achieved victory across all 19 regencies and cities in West Sumatra, cementing their dominance in the election.  

KPU West Sumatra Chairman, Surya Efitrimen, announced the results during the plenary session, which was attended by other KPU commissioners, representatives from Bawaslu West Sumatra, candidate witnesses, Bawaslu representatives from regencies and cities, and invited guests.  

“KPU has officially declared candidate pair number 1, Mahyeldi-Vasko, as the elected Governor and Deputy Governor of West Sumatra with 77.12% of the vote,” Surya stated, accompanied by KPU commissioners Jons Manedi, Ory Sativa Syakban, Medo Patria, Hamdan, and KPU Secretary Irzal Zamzami.  

Surya also highlighted voter turnout for the 2024 West Sumatra election, which reached 57.15%.  

“A total of 2,349,069 voters exercised their right to vote from the total Final Voter List (DPT),” he explained, as reported by infopublik.id.  

The 2024 West Sumatra gubernatorial election proceeded peacefully and transparently, thanks to the collaboration of KPU, Bawaslu, the candidates, and the public. KPU expressed hope that the newly elected leaders, Mahyeldi and Vasko, would steer West Sumatra toward a brighter future in line with the people’s mandate.
