No Indonesian Citizens Among Victims of Jeju Air

JAKARTA, kiprahkita.net - The Directorate General of Protection for Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed that no Indonesian citizens (WNI) were among the passengers involved in a plane crash in South Korea on Sunday (December 29, 2024).  

This statement was made by the Director General of PWNI, Judha Nugraha, in an official release on Sunday. 

Judha stated that preliminary information indicated no WNI passengers were on board the ill-fated aircraft.  

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Seoul are closely monitoring the plane crash that occurred at Muan International Airport," said Judha.  

He added that KBRI Seoul is coordinating with local authorities to obtain the latest information about the incident.  

South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that a Jeju Air plane carrying 181 passengers crashed at Muan International Airport at 9:07 a.m. local time (7:07 a.m. WIB) on Sunday.  

The plane reportedly veered off the runway during landing and collided with the airport fence. The incident resulted in at least 28 fatalities and several injuries.  

Muan International Airport is located approximately 288 kilometers southwest of Seoul. 

South Korean authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, while evacuation and rescue efforts for passengers and victims are ongoing.  

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through KBRI Seoul, has taken proactive measures to safeguard the welfare of Indonesian citizens in South Korea. 

KBRI Seoul has opened communication channels for WNI in need of assistance or information related to the incident.  

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also provided a 24-hour hotline for families or relatives in Indonesia seeking updates about their loved ones in South Korea.
