PADANG, kiprahkita.net - West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah has reaffirmed the provincial government’s full commitment to ensuring the success of the direct Padang-Singapore flight route by Scoot Airlines, set to commence on January 6, 2025.
This strategic route aims to significantly boost the local economy by enhancing collaboration with tourism organizations and industry players in the region.
Speaking during a meeting with Scoot Pte Ltd's management team at the West Sumatra Governor's Palace on Friday (December 27, 2024), Mahyeldi emphasized the importance of sustaining this route.
"On January 6, 2025, Scoot Airlines will land at Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) from Changi Airport, marking the inaugural direct Padang-Singapore flight. We are preparing for a grand ceremonial event to celebrate this milestone," he stated.
Mahyeldi acknowledged past challenges faced by airlines attempting to maintain this route and highlighted the need for thorough evaluations to ensure Scoot Airlines’ long-term success.
He shared insights from the meeting, revealing that the route will be serviced by an Embraer aircraft with a capacity of 112 passengers.
“We aim to maximize this opportunity by fostering collaborations in trade, umrah services, tourism, agriculture, and education to support this route. We are committed to making it a sustainable and impactful endeavor,” Mahyeldi added.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from various industries, tourism organizations, and business leaders.
Mahyeldi urged related regional offices to enhance communication, coordination, promotion, and partnerships with stakeholders.
He also emphasized providing sufficient information to the Minangkabau diaspora regarding the new route.
“We are determined to meet the needs of travelers from Singapore. For instance, running events are highly popular in Singapore. We should organize more such events to attract tourists, alongside other activities and destination enhancements,” he suggested.
Jafri Arief, Leader of Scoot Indonesia-Jakarta, expressed his gratitude for the provincial government's proactive support.
“It’s rare for us to be invited to such meetings before launching a route. Usually, we just begin operations. This time, Governor Mahyeldi organized a meeting involving key officials and stakeholders, and we are honored by this initiative. We are committed to making this route sustainable,” Jafri stated.
The meeting was also attended by Acting Mayor of Padang Andree H. Algamar, West Sumatra Assistant II Arry Yuswandi, Acting Secretaries from Bukittinggi and Pariaman, and other key provincial and municipal officials, including heads of tourism, transportation, agriculture, and trade departments.
The new Padang-Singapore route not only promises enhanced connectivity but also holds the potential to become a catalyst for West Sumatra’s economic growth through trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges.(adpsb)
