Sonny Budaya Putra Monitors Food Price Stability

PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net - To monitor food price stability ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year celebrations (Nataru), Acting Mayor (Pj) Sonny Budaya Putra, together with members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), conducted an inspection at the Central Market on Sunday (22/12/2024).

Pj Mayor Sonny stated that the inspection aimed to ensure food prices remain stable without significant spikes, especially given the increased demand during the year-end holiday season.

"This inspection is also to evaluate the availability of essential goods and ensure there is no shortage that could harm the community," Sonny added.

During the inspection, Pj Mayor Sonny was accompanied by the Chair of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Imbral, S.E; and Commander of Military District 0307/Tanah Datar, Lieutenant Colonel Inf. Agus Priyo Pujo Sumedi, S.IP, M.Han.

Also; Police Chief AKBP Kartyana Widyarso Wardoyo Putro, SIK, MAP; Head of the State Prosecutor’s Office, Jerniaty, M.H; Chief Judge of the District Court, Agung Wicaksono, S.H, M.Kn; and several other related officials.

The team visited the Central Market to directly assess the availability and prices of essential goods, including rice, cooking oil, vegetables, meat, fresh and dried fish, and other staples.

“Our goal is to ensure food prices remain affordable for the public, especially ahead of Nataru. We want to make sure the supply of goods is sufficient and that there are no shortages causing price surges,” Sonny explained.

He urged traders not to unilaterally raise prices and called on local government officials to continuously monitor market price movements.

“We are also collaborating with relevant parties to ensure the availability of goods in traditional markets. The public should not panic about shortages of essential goods. Traders should not exploit the situation for unfair profit,” Sonny emphasized.

The inspection revealed that most food prices remain stable. However, some commodities, such as chili and vegetables, have experienced slight increases due to poor weather affecting agricultural yields.

Pj Mayor Sonny and Forkopimda also stressed the importance of public participation by avoiding panic buying and purchasing goods according to needs to prevent waste and shortages.

With direct monitoring by the city government and Forkopimda, it is hoped that the public can enjoy the year-end holidays peacefully, without worrying about rising food prices.  (kominfopdp)
