PADANG PANJANG, kiprahkita.net — The theatrical performance Sayap-sayap Proklamasi (Wings of Proclamation) left a profound impression on its audience. A solitary door without walls on stage became a symbolic element that sparked boundless imagination.
“This simple prop visualizes the presence of Bung Hatta with extraordinary symbolic power. Through this element, the audience is invited to reflect on the struggles of a proclaimer in charting the path to independence,” said Hamzah, M.Sn., an artist and Fine Arts lecturer at ISI Padang Panjang, Thursday (19/12/2024).
According to Hamzah, the element was one of the highlights of the performance by the Kuflet Arts Community, staged on December 12, 2024, at the Kubu Gadang Tourism Village, Padang Panjang.
Directed by Sulaiman Juned with a script by S. Hasnah Nst., Sayap-sayap Proklamasi transcends mere stage entertainment. It serves as a poignant reminder of the noble values of the nation's struggle, blending historical messages with stirring artistry.
The performance integrated various artistic elements, including dance, music, video mapping, and visual props, seamlessly into a harmonious presentation.
Hamzah emphasized the strength of symbolism in the performance, noting that the solitary door without walls was not merely an aesthetic component but also a profound metaphor.
“The door opens millions of spaces for reflection, offering the public an opportunity to understand and ponder the nation’s struggles,” he said.
Simple costumes representing the past enhanced the authenticity, immersing the audience in the humble yet meaningful atmosphere of the independence struggle.
The dynamic portrayal of the charismatic and strategic Soekarno-Hatta duo was also powerfully depicted. The use of video mapping not only complemented the performance but brought the fervor of the independence movement to life.
Each scene presented a blend of visual symbolism and narrative, connecting the past to the present, making the performance relevant in a modern context.
“Through this combination, we are reminded that independence was not achieved instantly but through a long, arduous process,” Hamzah added.
Yunaidi, M.Sn., a composer and Karawitan lecturer at ISI Padang Panjang, described the performance as a spectacular artistic package.
“The Rabab Pasisia served as a dominant element guiding the story, much like gurindam in randai, seamlessly transitioning from one scene to another,” he explained.
The inclusion of original video footage further enhanced the historical atmosphere, transporting the audience to the heart of significant moments in history.
However, Yunaidi pointed out some room for improvement in the sound design.
“Certain moments felt musically empty, where additional elements could have supported the ambiance,” he noted.
Despite this, he praised the performance for reaching a wide audience, from intellectuals to the general public, and for inspiring a spirit of struggle in the younger generation.
Dr. Bagong Pujiono, M.Sn., a theater arts lecturer at ISI Surakarta, commended the performance for reviving heroic values that remain relevant today.
“These values can serve as an example for the younger generation to appreciate the contributions of heroes and apply them in daily life,” he stated.
He viewed the performance as a crucial effort to preserve the nation’s collective memory amid the rapid currents of globalization.
For Dr. Bagong, the performance also highlighted the importance of art as an educational tool. Art is not merely a medium of expression but also a vehicle for transmitting national values and strengthening identity.
He applauded the meticulous efforts of the Kuflet Arts Community in delivering messages through various artistic media.
Sayap-sayap Proklamasi arrived at a timely moment, as national values begin to fade. With its powerful narrative and evocative visualization, the performance served as both an educational tool and a medium for reflection for the younger generation.
The use of video mapping, showcasing original documentation, stood out as one of the key elements that reinforced the historical messages in the performance. This authentic touch not only heightened the experience but also solidified the portrayal of past struggles.
This grand success was a result of the hard work of director Sulaiman Juned, the actors, and the artistic and production teams of the Kuflet Arts Community.
Through meticulously arranged artistic elements, they presented a performance that was both entertaining and enlightening.
“Bravo to the Kuflet Arts Community and everyone involved,” concluded Dr. Bagong Pujiono, expressing his spirited appreciation.
Through Sayap-sayap Proklamasi, the Kuflet Arts Community successfully revived the spirit of unity and nationalism.
This performance was not merely entertainment but a reminder that history must be kept alive as a lesson for future generations.
“May the messages conveyed through this art inspire the spirit of young Bung Hattas in every child of the nation,” he added. (rel)
