Thousands of Cars Enter and Exit Samosir Island

SAMOSIR, kiprahkita.net - During the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) holiday period, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) recorded a total of 1,448 vehicles crossing from Ajibata to Ambarita, Samosir, North Sumatra, between December 18, 2024 (D-7), and December 25, 2024 (D-Day).

ASDP Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin stated that the numbers reflect a decrease compared to the same period last year, both in terms of vehicles and passengers.

"There has been a 37% decrease compared to the same period last year, where 2,298 vehicles crossed. The decline is also evident in the number of passengers, dropping from 11,959 people to 9,250, or about 23%," she explained on Thursday (December 26, 2024).

The majority of vehicles crossing from Ajibata to Ambarita during this period were four-wheeled vehicles, totaling 1,167 units.

This marks a 40% decrease from the 1,942 units recorded during the same period last year. Meanwhile, two-wheeled vehicles amounted to 213 units, a slight 5% decrease from last year's 224 units.

The peak traffic for this year’s Christmas holiday occurred on Saturday (December 21) with 240 vehicles and Sunday (December 22) with 236 vehicles. Despite this, the overall traffic was relatively smooth, supported by favorable weather conditions.

"Given the significant number of vehicles, we urge passengers to prepare for potential congestion during the New Year return traffic, expected on January 1-2, 2025.
