Governor Welcomes Scoot's Inaugural Flight from Singapore-Padang

PADANG, kiprahkita.net - West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah, warmly welcomed 89 passengers arriving on Scoot Airlines' inaugural flight from Singapore to Padang, and saw off 112 passengers departing from Padang to Singapore. 

The event took place at Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) on Monday (6/1/2025).  

Governor Mahyeldi emphasized that the West Sumatra Provincial Government had been preparing for this inaugural flight for a long time. 

He expressed hope that the new route would bring positive impacts for Indonesia and Singapore, particularly boosting the West Sumatra economy.  

"Today, we joyfully welcome Scoot Airlines' inaugural Padang-Singapore flight. Earlier, while waiting for passengers landing from Singapore, we spoke with passengers departing from BIM to Singapore. They expressed their hope that this route continues to operate regularly," said Mahyeldi during a press conference.  

To address these expectations, Mahyeldi urged cooperation among all stakeholders, including regency and city governments, industry and trade organizations, tourism associations, educational institutions, tourism operators, and others, to ensure the smooth and sustainable operation of the Padang-Singapore route.  

"Following the inaugural flight ceremony, we immediately held a High-Level Meeting (HLM) with the Singapore Consulate General and Scoot Airlines to discuss collaborative efforts for maintaining and sustaining this route," Mahyeldi added.  

The Governor also highlighted that opening the Padang-Singapore route signals Minangkabau International Airport’s growing importance, as it now serves more international destinations, including Kuala Lumpur and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  

"We extend our gratitude and appreciation to all parties who contributed to the success of this route's opening. Let's work together to ensure its sustainability," he concluded.  

Andrew Goh, Vice President of Network Planning for Scoot Airlines, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome. 

He committed to maintaining sustainable operations for the Padang-Singapore route.  

"We recognize the vast potential of West Sumatra, with its stunning natural beauty, unique architecture, and cultural wealth. We believe this route can operate successfully for the long term," Goh said.  

He explained that the route utilizes the Embraer E190-E2 aircraft with a capacity of 112 passengers. The Padang-Singapore flights operate three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.  

"For today’s inaugural flight, 89 seats were occupied on the Singapore-Padang route, while the Padang-Singapore route was fully booked," Goh added.  

Governor Mahyeldi was accompanied by several officials, including Acting West Sumatra Regional Secretary Yozarwardi Usama Putra, Acting Mayor of Padang Andree H. Algamar.

Also, Acting Regional Secretary of Pariaman City Mursalim, West Sumatra Tourism Department Head Luhur Budianda, West Sumatra Bappeda Head Medi Iswandi, West Sumatra Communications and Informatics Department Head Siti Aisyah.

Then, West Sumatra Cooperatives and MSMEs Department Head Endrizal, West Sumatra Trade and Industry Department Head Novrial, and West Sumatra Transportation Department Head Dedy Diantolani. (adpsb)
