In a bid to enhance readiness, the Padang Panjang Police have carried out a series of actions, including assessing the preparedness of disaster response personnel and equipment.
"We are ensuring all disaster response tools are in working condition and that our personnel are well-equipped with the knowledge to act swiftly in emergency situations," said AKBP Kartyana.
The police are also coordinating with the Padang Panjang and Tanah Datar Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD), the Disaster Preparedness Team (Tagana), and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to monitor developments and respond promptly if a disaster occurs.
"We are collaborating with relevant parties to ensure immediate action in case of worsening conditions," he added.
Additionally, the police have disseminated information and advisories through police chiefs, sub-district heads, community police officers (Bhabinkamtibmas), village leaders, mosques, prayer houses, and social media.
Residents living near riverbanks are urged to remain vigilant for rising water levels that could lead to flooding. "We urge residents to evacuate immediately if the water level increases," he stressed.
AKBP Kartyana has also requested the Padang Panjang City Government and Tanah Datar Regency Government to prepare evacuation sites, such as tents, mosques, prayer houses, and public kitchens, to meet urgent needs during evacuation efforts.
This preparedness initiative aims to safeguard the residents, especially those in disaster-prone areas. The Chief of Police called on all elements of society to work together in facing potential disasters caused by extreme weather and Mount Msrapi's activity.(mus)
