Kemendikdasmen Responds to MK on Mandatory Religious Education

JAKARTA, kiprahkita.net - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has expressed its support and readiness to implement the Constitutional Court's (MK) decision mandating religious education in schools.

The ruling officially requires schools to include religious education as part of their curriculum.

“Kemendikdasmen welcomes and is fully prepared to implement the MK's decision. The Constitutional Court's ruling is highly appropriate and aligns with the 1945 Constitution, which emphasizes the goal of education as shaping individuals to be faithful, devout, and morally upright,” stated Abdul Mu’ti, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education.

Minister Mu’ti added that the decision to mandate religious education in schools also reinforces Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System.

This law guarantees every student’s right to receive religious education according to their own faith, taught by teachers who share the same religion.

Constitutional Court Justice Arief Hidayat highlighted that the teaching of religion has long been part of Indonesia’s education system, stemming from the nation’s acceptance of Pancasila as its ideological foundation.

He emphasized that national education must be carried out democratically and equitably while respecting human rights, religious values, cultural norms, and the diversity of the nation.

“The goal of national education is to develop students into individuals who are faithful and devoted. At any level, national education cannot be separated from religious values,” he concluded.(infopublik.id)
