TOBA, kiprahkita.net - The Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUTR) of Toba Regency has deployed heavy equipment to be on standby for clearing and repairs in the event of landslides.

"Currently, no equipment is completely idle; all units are operational. However, if a landslide occurs, we will immediately move the nearest equipment to the affected area," said Maju Simangunsong, Head of Equipment and Testing, during an interview in his office on Monday (January 13, 2025).

At present, two backhoe loaders and four excavators are actively working in various locations across Toba Regency, including in Hutanamora, Lumban Julu, where efforts are ongoing to address a landslide that occurred last Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Toba Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has urged residents to remain alert and prepared for extreme weather and potential disasters during the rainy season.

"People need to heighten their vigilance as we are now entering the rainy season," said Robert Manurung, Acting Head of BPBD Toba Regency, on Monday (January 13, 2025).

In addition to landslides caused by rain, BPBD also warned of moderate to heavy rain, potentially accompanied by lightning or strong winds.

Residents are advised to regularly monitor official weather updates from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The BMKG’s information serves as a precaution against the impacts of extreme weather, including floods, flash floods, landslides, slippery roads, fallen trees, and reduced visibility.(mctoba)
